I just pulled a junker out of the closet with an 82801AA southbridge as
well. It only accepted low profile PCI cards, so I had to perform a
*ahem* case modification with a pair of metal cutters. :D
I just installed Fedora 9 on it, so now I need to get the kernel
development headers on it and build v4l-dvb. I'll also report on how
that goes.

I've read about some of the differences between PCI versions 2.2 and
2.3. The only thing that looks like it could cause a problem is new
rules about the IDSEL signal, which is used when making configuration
access, I think.
I need to see if lspci presents what the kernel thinks the configuration
is or what the pci devices' hardware is actually set at.
