[ivtv-users] Why doesn't the command ivtv-radio -j return?

Is there some detailed documentation on the ivtv* commands?
For example, why does the command to tune the tv,
  ivtv-tune -f somefreq
return immediately, but the command to tune the radio,
  ivtv-radio -f somefreq -f
does not? It keeps running until I terminate it with Ctrl-C
However the radio (on /dev/radio0) stays tuned correctly after I
terminated the command with Ctrl-C

What does the ivtv-radio options -P and  -i do?

I just want to set the frequency for the radio with a command that returns,
just
like with setting the frequency for the tv, because I want to run this
command
from a small GUI program. If the command does not return, the GUI program
will lock up or will need to do odd things like killing the command.
