I tried playing a file using:

mplayer -vo fbdev <file>

It played much better and didn't cause the traceback. However, it
didn't play perfectly (the video was too slow and began lagging badly
behind the audio) and gave me some sort of a warning about the cache.
I'm guessing this is something that could be fixable and is unrelated
but thought I'd mention it anyway.

Any other ideas? Any guess as to why any code for via hardware would
be executed?
