just for the records:
My initial analysis was right. It is a saa7129 chip; the wrong dmesg ouptut 
was a result of using the wrong patch for 2.6.28

If anyone has the same problem with broken S-Video on PVR350 in 2.6.28: Don`t 
use the patch I posted earlier. Instead use the patch Hans provided for 
integration in 2.6.28.x:
